Lately, mysterious transformations of people into tiny coins have been occurring with increasing frequency; it seems to be connected to cracks in their hearts. H works for a Suicide Prevention Hotline and has already talked more than three hundred people out of their “transformation.” But she is not always successful. Her latest caller gave up, and she blames herself.

She is drinking away her troubles in a sushi bar when she is approached by a strange and intriguing being. Soon afterward, she wakes up in a motel room, with the being there beside her. It gradually becomes clear that leaving the room will not be so easy, while travelling through time and memories is as simple as snapping your fingers. What’s more, the being makes H a very strange business proposition.

The playwright herself describes the play as an attempt at an absurd surrealist comedy, a wild – and perhaps even laugh-inducing – odyssey about despair and empathy. But the play also explores rebellion against a predetermined order, whether it is possible to “negotiate” with forces greater than ourselves, how to preserve vulnerability and sensitivity in a world that insists on drawing hard boundaries, and to what extent a predetermined fate can be changed.

The play was developed as part of an open call launched in New York in cooperation with Švandovo divadlo, the production platform The Play Company through its Artist Residency Program, and Venturous Theater Fund.
